The postgraduate MBA course should build on the previously attained qualification with a forward-looking and practical approach. The aspects of the social market economy and corporate responsibility articulated by Franz Oppenheimer have their place in an MBA course of study, as well as in scientific further education.
The social market economy is regarded as a cultural achievement, which allows people to recognise their social and economic position and contribute to reforming their social systems in the interest of society as a whole, and for the further development of companies.
The course can be completed in different ways:
• Full-time attendance
• Part-time attendance
• Foundation study via distance learning
• Foundation studies at a cooperating university/university of applied science, in particular in eastern European countries (module books are available as certified modules at the respective institute)
• Whole course of study on distance learning basis with periodic attendance, particularly at weekends in blocks of 7-14 days.
Admission and graduation
The course culminates in a state recognised and accredited academic degree, “Master of Business Administration” (MBA), according to the quality standards of the relevant agencies. Admission to the examination requires proof of successful completion of a first degree (university, university of applied sciences, university of cooperative education) and a minimum of years’ professional experience.
Objectives and target group
The course should provide preparation for leadership functions, in that methods and study are practice-orientated towards specific sectors, both national and international.
Therefore, it is important that students with a more technical and scientific background emphasise study of micro and macroeconomics, and vice versa. Active managers of the future should, in addition to the general socio-political and corporate orientated themes, also
acquire knowledge of the questions and problems within companies and the public sector.
Duration and location
The course lasts 4 months and is divided into foundation studies and main studies, which begin with the Master thesis assignment. The course begins every autumn. Costs for travel to and from the seminar venue are met by the participant. The course takes place mainly in Heidelberg and Berlin.
Course performance and qualifications
The course comprises foundation studies of 8 modules with a total of 1 0 ECTS or 60 ECTS. A distinction is made between the core area for social sciences and technical students, and the core area for economics students. The credit points are categorised according to the relevant accreditation agencies. The course culminates in the Master thesis and disputation. Upon successful completion, the
state recognised, academic degree of Master of Business Administration is awarded.
